Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover EDL Socks
Mars Perseverance Rover
Celebrate the launch and landing of the Mars 2020 Perseverance mission with the first science socks we ever released. A unique gift for engineers, scientists and space enthousiasts.
After a successful launch on 30 July 2020, NASA's latest Mars 2020 mission Perseverance rover embarked on its nearly 7-month journey through space to the red planet. As we countdown to the landing on Mars on February 18th, 2021 these science socks depict the entire journey from launch until landing.
7-minutes of terror
Landing on Mars is very difficult and the inspiration behind these space socks. Due to these challenging conditions, this is often referred to as the 7-minutes of terror. These minutes start as soon as the spacecraft touches the atmosphere and starts its EDL sequence (entry, descent and landing) which involves, amongst other, a heatshield, parachutes, and rocket engines. For more information check out NASA's EDL page. The EDL sequence is displayed on the front of the socks.
